I provide advice and treatment for neurosurgical conditions for patients in London, Surrey, Windsor and beyond.
I am a consultant neurosurgeon and I provide advice and treatment for a range of conditions affecting the brain and spine including back pain, sciatica, disc prolapses, neck pain, brachialgia, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations and brain tumours, in both adults and children. I also have expertise in surgery for epilepsy, deep brain stimulation and paediatric neurosurgery.
I have an established NHS practice at King's College Hospital, London and Evelina London Children's Hospital, where I hold clinics in adult and paediatric general neurosurgery, spinal surgery and epilepsy surgery. I also manage adults and children presenting as emergencies with neurosurgical conditions, such as head injury and spinal injuries. I participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and I have a role in the neurosciences risk and clinical governance team.
My private practice is based at the Syon Clinic, Clementine Churchill Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and King's College Hospital. I aim to provide pragmatic advice and hope most of my patients will not need an operation, but I strive to provide high quality surgery when it is needed.
I aim to provide a service which includes:
- Straightforward advice
- Realistic discussion of benefits and risks of surgery, if that is an option
- Multidisciplinary assessment as you would have in the NHS, when indicated
- Timely correspondence and clinic letters, e-mailed to the patient and GP
- Onward referral to a suitable specialist for conditions outside my expertise
- Reducing routine follow-up appointments, instead offering patient-initiated follow-up when needed

I was born in Kyoto, Japan and studied medicine at the University of Glasgow. My neurosurgical training was in London, including King's College Hospital, St. George's Hospital and Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre. I undertook fellowships in functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery and paediatric neurosurgery at King's College Hospital before being appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at King's College Hospital and Evelina London Children's Hospital in 2020. I have authored over 40 scientific papers and co-authored a popular textbook of neurosurgery - Oxford Case Histories in Neurosurgery. My other interests include cooking and the mind-body relationship.

All new and follow-up consultations are booked at 20-minute intervals. Some patients will require slightly longer (or shorter). Your patience is greatly appreciated if the clinic is running late.
When you attend your consultation, you will be asked about your symptoms, and a physical examination may be performed. If further tests (e.g. a scan) are needed, this will be booked on a separate date that is convenient for you. You will need a follow-up appointment to discuss the results of the tests. If surgery is recommended, the details of this will be discussed. The typical waiting time for a scan is about 1 week. The typical waiting time for surgery, if this is needed, is around 2-3 weeks.

I work with the following insurers: BUPA, Aviva, AXA, WPA, Allianz, Vitality. If you have a policy with any of the above and you obtain pre-authorization, the costs for consultations, investigations and any surgery that may be required should usually be covered by your insurer. If you have an insurance excess to pay, you will receive an invoice after the consultation.

If you are self-funding your treatment, you will be responsible for all costs including consultations, investigations (such as scans or blood tests) and surgery. You will always have the option of proceeding with further consultations, investigations or treatment at any stage.
Costs for consultations: Initial: £300 Follow-up: £250
